1) You. Who you are. What your talents are. What your skills
and experiences are. Also: what are your aspirations? Specifically regarding
your business concept, how do you see this business (if you were to start it)
playing a role in your life?
I am a political science major at the University of Florida
and my skills lie in understanding politics. My experiences have been primarily
in the realm of academia since I have not had a proper job in this current
point in my life. My business concept I see it as a good way to educate people
and get them more involved in politics thus involving myself more in this field
that I love.
2) What are you offering to customers? Describe the product
or service (in other words, how you'll solve customers' unmet needs).
I am offering customers the opportunity to see candidates
for what they really are instead, of the hype or defamation expressed by a
clearly biased mainstream media. This will be conducted through an application
that will put facts about candidates, their voting history, and where they
truly lie on the political spectrum. People are woefully uninformed about the
going-ons of politics and find themselves trusting a clearly biased source.
3) Who are you offering it to? Describe, in as much detail
as possible, the demographic and psychographic characteristics of your
customers. Think especially of this question: what do your customers all have
in common?
I am offering this product to the general populace since
they are quite frankly upset with their current lot and are expressing it by
going to candidates offering radical versions of reform. Demographic much of
the populace expressing this sentiment is young and have no actual idea of how
politics works. All my customers in general know how to use an application on a
smartphone and have a basic idea of how elections work.
4) Why do they care? Your solution is only valuable insofar
as customers believe its valuable to them. Here, explain why customers will
actually pay you money to use your product or service.
They care because this app will help choose the government
that they have placed over themselves. Value cannot be of the higher quality
except of that of the necessary items for survival. Customers will pay for my
product via a subscription on my application of a single dollar a year. Another
avenue of profit is through ads that will be placed in the app, non-political
of course.
5) What are your core competencies? What sets you apart from
everyone else? Also: what do you have that nobody else has?
My core competencies are working hard, slightly underestimating
how things will turn out and being stubborn. What sets me apart from everyone
else is the fact that I will not give up even if I have failed, I will analyze
and reform my process until success is reached. I also am skilled in analyzing
politics as well as lacking any noticeable bias as I distance myself from
politics.
In conclusion, all of the factors I have listed align
themselves quite well. This has the end result of making it much easier to have
a successful idea with every aspect in sync. To be perfectly honest, the only
area of concern for me is the profit mechanism as I am still undecided on how
to charge for the app and which would be the most efficient way to gain
revenue.

Hi Michael,
I think your idea to get people more informed and aware of politics is very smart. Especially in this generation, students don't seem to know basic government fundamentals and history, as well as not being very informed of current events and political issues. This is great timing with the upcoming election as students should participate in voting as well as striving to have a great turnout. We should all be aware of the platforms and policies of each candidate to make good voting choices.
Here is the link to my idea:

Hey Michael,
I have recently become very interested in the presidential campaign this year. I agree that many Americans, like myself, are vastly uninformed about each candidate and their views. I think your app idea could be very useful for Americans to get information as well as updates about the campaign. My only worry, though, is that in order for your app to be a trustworthy source, there would have to be some way of guaranteeing unbiased reporting of data within the app. Otherwise, it would just turn into a campaign tool for the politicians to twist each other's words in the public eye. Hope this helps! Check out my post if you like! http://josetheentrepreneur.blogspot.com/2016/02/idea-napkin-no-1.html
Hey there Michael,
Wow this is an incredible idea. People seem to get their deduction making ideas from sources that are frankly not very reliable. It is very important for candidates to be chosen for who they sincerely are, as well as for people to become informed. Voter turnout needs to become better representative of our population. You really are onto something! Keep up the good work!
